Gathering of moderates in January

More than 300 leaders and key figures from all over the world will be here next January for the inaugural Global Movement of Moderates conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Organised by the alumni of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), the conference from Jan 17 to 19 is themed “Towards Fair and Lasting Peace”.
“This conference will be an important platform towards making the concept of moderation the ultimate formula to make the world a better place,” said IIUM alumni president Khalek Awang in a press statement.
“It will also provide space for delegates to unite against extremist thinking which can impede peace,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will deliver the opening address titled Global Movement of Moderates: Way Forward.
Khalek said more than 30 religious leaders, foreign policy makers and thinkers will present working papers and share their ideas and perspectives on the concept of moderation.
The Global Movement of Moderates is Najib's brainchild.
